French Sentence Structure Practice

1. Declarative Sentences

Declarative sentences make statements and follow the standard Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) word order.

Structure:
Subject + Verb + Complement

Example: Le chat mange la souris. (The cat eats the mouse.)

Note: Adjectives typically follow the noun in French.

Example: J'ai une voiture rouge. (I have a red car.)

2. Interrogative Sentences

Interrogative sentences ask questions. French has several ways to form questions.

Methods:
- Intonation: Vous parlez français?
- Est-ce que: Est-ce que vous parlez français?
- Inversion: Parlez-vous français?

Example: Où habites-tu? (Where do you live?)

3. Exclamatory Sentences

Exclamatory sentences express strong emotion or surprise.

Structure:
- Que + subject + verb: Que tu es belle!
- Comme + subject + verb: Comme il fait beau!
- Quel/Quelle + noun: Quelle belle journée!

Example: Quel dommage! (What a pity!)

4. Imperative Sentences

Imperative sentences give commands, make requests, or offer advice.

Formation:
Use the tu, nous, or vous form of the verb without the subject pronoun.

Examples:
- Mange tes légumes! (Eat your vegetables!)
- Parlons français! (Let's speak French!)
- Écoutez-moi! (Listen to me!)

Negative: Ne + verb + pas

Example: Ne parle pas! (Don't speak!)
